THE RESCUE(S)

Some folks' level of stupidity is amazing. Take, for instance, the family in Georgia whose home was rebuilt on "Extreme Makeover" just three years ago. Money, time and labor was donated to help the family out of a bad situation, and the home was gorgeous when finished. The family owed no money at completion, and funds were provided them to pay the taxes on the home for 25 years. A college fund was set up with $100,000 for the children. What a deal, right?

Well, 15 months after the home was completed, the family took out a $450,000 mortgage to start a construction business. (WHO starts a construction business from scratch in the midst of one of the worst housing slumps in decades???) Of course, the business failed. Now the home is in foreclosure, and guess who's coming to bail their sorry butts out THIS time? Good old Uncle Sam with its new rescue program for homeowners in default.

Boy, does this chap my buns. Doesn't ANYONE take responsibility for their actions any more? We are such a GIMME society.
