BEN STEIN'S "EXPELLED"

(sigh)

Sitting here thawing out from having just sat in a 60-degree theatre to see Ben Stein's movie, "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," I have to wonder why ANYONE opts for going out to see a flick. The "bargain" matinee was $7, the smallest bag of popcorn $5.50, the smallest drink $4.50. Bottled water was $2.50. This doesn't count the mortgage I had to take out to buy the gas to GET there! Once in that icebox, a woman entered the theatre half-way through the movie with a young child who proceeded to talk and walk up and down the aisles. A woman two rows behind me answered a cell phone call, which I found absolutely incredible since there are three separate requests to silence cell phones before film begins to roll! I was nearly deafened by the previews to boot. All in all, another unpleasant experience at the theatre.

Aside from all that, the movie itself was quite thought-provoking in its quest to understand why there is such controversy among scientists on the subjects of Intelligent Design (ID) and evolution. The subject matter is fundamentally very disturbing. With ID being castigated by a good part of the scientific community, Ben Stein's premise (and that of a few of the scientists he interviewed) is that there has ceased to be a dialogue about the origin of life that doesn't propel Darwin's theories. No matter what your religious bent, the movie is worthwhile..........just wait 'til it's out on DVD when you needn't encounter those unpleasantries mentioned in the first paragraph!

(Note to the author of Targeted Outrage: This is a movie you can sink your teeth into!)
