Is it possible to get a blog post out of writer's block?
Here's the routine: Up at 5 a.m., make coffee (kaw'-fee), respond to email, concentrate on writing something -- anything -- just the least bit interesting. Sometimes I have fragments of ideas that make their way to a rough draft; other times something has caught my attention, my ire, my disgust, my funny bone, my heart, my emotions that I can whip out 500 words in the snap of a finger. Other times I struggle to come up with an idea that may be meaningful enough to put pen to paper (or cursor to screen). A curse, it is.
I have varied interests, but are they YOURS? Will I be indulgent to continue writing about issues close to my heart -- right to choose, southern cuisine, men who cheat, college basketball? Will I bore you with my conservative slant on the war in Iraq, the economy, capital punishment, society's stumble? Will I irritate you with my opinions of Christopher Lowell's prissiness, Diane Feinstein's naivete, Tom Cruise's insipidness (I know you like him, Ken), PETA's push of the envelope? Yeah. I most likely WILL be indulgent, WILL bore you, WILL irritate you. But hopefully I may also give you food for thought, stir an emotion, inspire a dialogue. Let me know one way or the other.
